SAN FRANCISCO—The Cancer Survival Toolbox is a set of self-learning audiotapes available in English and Spanish, designed for persons with cancer to help them develop skills needed to manage their cancer experience.

The six skills taught in the tapes are self-advocacy, communication, information seeking, decision making, problem solving, and negotiation. Two new modules were introduced last year: “Finding Ways to Pay for Care” and “Topics for Older Persons.”

The program was developed by the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS), Association of Oncology Social Work, and Oncology Nursing Society. The audiotapes are available free of charge by phone at 1-877-TOOLS-4-U

(1-877-866-5748) or at the NCCS website www.cansearch.org/programs/toolbox.htm. The Toolbox is made possible through a grant from Genentech, Inc.
